The ONE THING kiddo asked for if we moved was a play area in the back yard. When the tax refund came in, we set out to find the best play set we could where the weight limits would accommodate us “big kids” and last for years. We decided on this set at Lowe’s by Gorilla, called the Great Skye II. The wood is amber cedar. I am hoping it does well in our harsh sun and winters. We waited and got it one sale. Going this route to save a buck, meant waiting over two months for it to be delivered though.
Handy Husband was the one that built it, and he said the main complaint was all about the instructions being crap. We didn’t find that to be a big deal, there were a few photos that were confusing, but generally it’s not too bad. We opted not to assemble the picnic table yet. I was disappointed it was actually just a half of one that attached to a post. There’s also supposed to be a “sand box” area underneath, but oh hell no. That would just be a big ol’ cat litter box of nastiness out here.
The slides are rated to 150 pounds of weight on them, sweet! Being a grown up that still has to play with the single child, it was important to make sure I didn’t break it. My name would be mud if I did that. I was a little pissy that the delivery guy scratched them up so bad, but whatevs.
The only thing left to do is the chimney and the dormers. Total build time for us so far was about 14 hours. Rain comes every afternoon and build stuff on the house became priority again. Doesn’t mean that we can’t play on it though! We spent 4 hours in the Clubhouse yesterday. We had snacks, drinks, played games, tag, the works! It’s been really awesome to see Kiddo so excited! We even did story time with our blankets and it was so fun!
I just wonder how long it will take before I catch a child crawling up on top of the roof or on the beam of the swings.
