My journey to glowy skin!
Guys, sometimes you have to experiment. A lot. I have had cystic acne for as long as I can remember. It itches like crazy, so I pick. Vicious cycle.
My friend introduced me to oils. Naturally, I wanted to help my skin. First up was frankincense. Was a disaster! My skin inflamed, the smell gave me headaches. It wasn’t for me. Next up, tea tree. While not an epic catastrophe, it created such drying that the itch was back. (Keep in mind I had them UBER diluted!) Lavender works great for other areas like when I skinned my knee, but my face didn’t like it.
I got Peace & Calming as a sample. It’s not usually recommended to treat acne. At first, the smell didn’t suit me. Actually I’m super sensitive to smells, so most oils don’t give me warm fuzzies. But then it’s like my body craved the chance to try it. I can’t explain it. I added Peace & Calming to a 1oz spray bottle of distilled water with a tinsy bit of alcohol.
I’d take a clean wet rag, and gently clear my face with cool water. If the skin turned red, I scrubbed too hard. Then covered my eyes and spritzed! I let it air dry. Three weeks later, I’m a happy camper! I don’t wear foundation or powder, so there’s some visible pink where I’ve scarred. On special occasions where I do wear makeup though, it applies evenly and I actually have a smooth complexion for once!
Another big part of the regimen for better skin is remembering less is more. Scrubbing twice a day is not always the answer. Our skin will work harder to replenish what we take away from it, and if that means protective oils, they’ll come back with a vengeance. The beauty industry sells us on *needing* to do things morning and night in an effort to have flawless skin. Not true. When I stopped using cleansers, toners, then moisturizers, and just let my skin REST for awhile, it wasn’t such a chore anymore. Think about it. You use a cleanser to strip the skin. Then you try to fake it to thinking the oils are there by moisturizing. What if you picked one your skin doesn’t like? Clogs. The pores know! Break the bad habit of trying so hard.
I’ve grown to enjoy the scent of Peace & Calming, and I think the results speak for themselves. I still get pimples, but it’s nothing like I dealt with before. Usually that happens when I become a slacker on my face cleaning in the evenings. Hey, I get lazy. Sleeping in makeup is baaaaaaaad! The other culprit is when I binge on sugar. I love my caramel macchiatos!
Essential oils are just a great option when you want to try more natural alternatives.
